Nirantara Fabrics was founded by Shobhana Saboo, a 40-year-old homemaker from Indore, with a mission to promote natural textiles and empower women in the handloom sector. The Indian textile industry employs over 35 million people, 55% of whom are women. Inspired by this, our founder set out to create meaningful opportunities for women in tribal communities by providing small, easy-to-use looms that can be operated from their homes and villages.
All our fabrics are natural and pure. We focus on helping the Earth by producing and sourcing materials responsibly and organically. By using high-quality raw materials, we create long-lasting fabrics that reduce waste. Together, by choosing ethically made natural textiles, we can do our part in caring for Mother Nature.
Each square inch of handwoven fabric is unique and impossible to replicate. Its beauty lies in its natural imperfections—every thread tied by hand, every than a work of art. At Nirantara, we aim to offer an aesthetic textile palette and collaborate with partners to transform living spaces. We believe that elevating the beauty of our homes can greatly enhance well-being and create positive energy.
With focus on sustainability, women empowerment and love for our heritage, the brand came into existence when founder Shobhana Saboo visited Bhagalpur in 2011. After failing to find the right curtain fabric for her new home in Indore, she went to a relatives’ looms in rural Bihar. The trip did not conclude with just successful curtain shopping, but instead started an unexpected entrepreneurial journey focused on caring for the women that work our looms, the Earth that yearns for sustainable & responsible practices with the aesthetics of pure threads made to beautify our homes.
The brand continues to expand avenues which can alleviate the handloom textile industry from the shadows and popularize its use. We aim to tie homes together through symphonies conceptualized by Creatives in our Indian threads.
